about.

The oracle has long been portrayed as an agency of divine communication, or a message that is received as infallible and influential. And what is more infallible than the truth?

This project is meant to be a space where honesty and vulnerability can come to life. It is no secret that our stories shape who we are as individuals, and my story has certainly influenced my passion and purpose for doing this work. As a domestic abuse survivor and a communications scholar, I wanted to use my senior project to develop a platform where other individuals could share their own stories. I reached out to survivors, advocates, and those at the administrative level in the local communities of Allegheny College and Meadville, PA in the hopes that people would want to contribute their experiences and expertise to raise awareness and allow for others to establish a unique understanding of abuse through storytelling.

The response I received to my initial request was overwhelming. Within 24 hours of speaking to a handful of student organizations on Allegheny’s campus and visiting the survivors group at Women’s Services, I had nearly 10 participants willing to be interviewed for the project. By the time I finished interviews, I had collected approximately 15 hours of audio recording. While I wish I had the time, skill, and capability to utilize all 15 hours, I have synthesized and summarized the information conveyed to me into two short podcast episodes. What you are listening to here is a short preview of the larger work. It is important that you listen closely, carefully, and actively so that the conversation does not end here, but instead, it begins.
